Thought I would throw a couple photos out there for everyone to show that my shop floor does indeed get shavings all over it!

Looks like you've been busy...you either have one heck of a compost pile, or the trash guys hate you!

Michael - that would be compost piles - multiples in my backyard and have also been contributing to the neighbor's compost on either side of me! Anything to help folks out!!

Steve:
Cool. Thanks for showing the process. I got a question about your remote switch. Is that an option for your lathe or is that a shopmade switch that you wired?
All the best.

Don - the switch was something that I did on my own as I didn't want to reach across turnings to shut off the lathe. Very simple to make! PM me if you want the details.

Steve, That looks great. I can't wait to see the finished product. Thanks for posting pics of this piece in the lathe. It helps a new guy like me to see what it takes to do something like a hollow form.

Looks good Steve, is it now taking a DNA bath as we speak?

Steve Schlumpf

Thanks Jim! I usually manage to have one in the DNA at all times and just remove the soaked one when the next one is ready for it's bath.

You're welcome Bob!

Actually filled a 33 gallon trash bin - again! Colleen and I are planning on going snowshoeing this afternoon - so will empty the container then!

Very nice Steve!

Are you all out of dry wood?

Steve Schlumpf

Dry wood? No, actually I am making some every day thanks to the DNA process!! LOL

pete- why turn dry when you can turn green? its more fun with green.

with all of those shavings, you should see if when they get moldy if they are capable of being used to jumpstart the spaulting proccess on another peice of wood.

What I meant to say was, do you have any wood that has been dna'd and is dry enough to re-turn?

Steve,

Good looking rough. It looks like it has a lot of promise as a finished piece. Also NICE CURLIES. Thats the best part about turning green. Nice lathe, but it would look so much better in my shop. :D

Steve,

Nice form. I have been back turning for a few weeks now and lurking back on the different turner's forms. When I saw you were going out snowshoeing, I had to look up your location. I actually spent four years at KI Sawyer AFB back for 89-93. I have distinct memories of snow on Halloween. Although my younger daughter does not particularly like knowing she was born a "yooper", the rest of the family has quite fond memories.

Keep up the beautiful work.

Pete - I do have some dry stuff I could turn - but - I have a lot of green blanks cut up and stored in the garage right now. Want to get them roughed out, DNA and wrapped before I start on the dry stuff. Afraid that the longer I wait on the already cut green blanks - the more chance they will start to crack on me. Not sure how many blanks I have out there - probably 40 more or less - so should have green turnings for the next couple of weeks!
