Jack Miters...whats your technique?

Just curious how every does there jack miters on beaded face frames. I use my table saw and miter guage with the blade set to 45 degrees and the cut the beadoff onthe bandsaw or with a chisel, depending on whether it is an end or a center cut.

I just use a chisel and I made a guide for the 45 degree cut.

I've always used a guide, as Thomas suggests. I had an aluminum one made by a local machinist that c-clamps to the work and gives a nice broad surface to guide your chisel -- two pieces of 3/8" or 1/2" material bolted together forming a right angle, with the ends cut precisely at 45 degrees. Doesn't have to be metal, you can make one yourself out of wood or whatever.

I too use a chisel following a hand saw (on larger work). They use to make miter templates for this use. Mine are made by Preston.
