Help with laptop

I think this is probably a simple fix but I don't see it, I have XP pro for a operating system. This just started about a week ago. When watching a movie after about 10 min the screen goes back to the log in screen. I log it & that's ok for another 10 min or so. I went into display & shut all that off so it's not suppose to do anything when Idle but it still goes back to the log in screen....Any ideas as to how to fix this.

Does it happen when you are on battery power or plugged in? There are different power management settings for each situation. There are also profile/security settings for auto-logout.

Does it go back to the initial login screen or does it say This computer is locked and in use and you have to use a password to unlock the PC?

If it is the latter, then the Screen saver is set to Password protect.

I second the "power settings". Right click on the power icon in the system tray (looks like a power cord if plugged in, or a battery if not) and select "adjust power properties". There are settings for 'plugged in' and 'running on batteries'. I don't see anything about logging you out, but it's worth a shot.

If it's really logging you out (and not just going to 'screensaver), then read this:

This can be done in Windows 2000 / XP / .NET using Group Policy. Control Panel, Administrative Tools > local security (http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=794949#) policy > local policies \ security options \ "Automatically log off users" and/or "Amount of idle time required before disconnecting session"

Move your finger on the trackpad (or move the mouse if connected) about 6 or 7 minutes into it, and then see if it goes for 10 more minutes. You may have autologout if no activity (dvd is passive, not considered an activity).

This just started about a week or two. It goes back where you have to pick a user for their settings. I click on me then it will go back where it left off. If I'm using the computer it won't due it. It just started last night for the first time when there is a dvd playing. It does it when plugged in....don't know about being on the battery.
