Anyone have a good recommendation for a book that covers the Shaker styles? I'm looking for something to read this winter and thought something like this would be interesting.

Thanks

if you want just plans, i'd highly recommend the ejner handberg shop drawings of shaker furniture and woodenware. he also has several pages about the finishes they used and the construction methods.

I like Thos. Moser's "How to Build Shaker Furniture". ISBN 0-8069-8392-2.

"The Book of Shaker Furniture" is generally considered among, if not, the best. Can't remember the author, but can find it if needed.

Taunton books are usually among the very best (makers of Fine woodworking)

John Kasay is the author. And, yes, it is absolutely one of the best. The drawings are absolutely gorgeous! I have made several pieces in the book.

Another choice is the recent book published by Pop Woodworking detailing furniture at the Pleasent Hill Shaker Village in Kentucky. I believe the author is Kelly Meher?

Two Taunton press books are my favorites. The Shaker Legacy and In the Shaker Style are entertaining reading.

Here are a couple of books I've used for ideas on Shaker pieces.

# Shop drawings of Shaker furniture & hardware by Ejner Handberg

# Making authentic Shaker furniture By John G. Shea

# Pleasant Hill Shaker Furniture by Kerry Pierce

Maybe I,ll be getting a couple more, after I checkout some those mentioned above.
