Martin’s Dream
This is tubular construction, 34” end to end, 2” diameter tube, about 11” wide, Nigerian ebony and birdseye maple, approximately 4500 pieces.

Inspired by the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

Yeah, but are the tubes hollowed to uniform wall thickness? (For ref., have seen this piece before)

Sorry Malcolm, but the devil made me write that. Thanks for your comment on my pecan piece.

Beautiful work Malcolm! Love the way the light and dark play off of each other! Found myself just staring at it for a while... that's pretty cool! Once again - amazed at the imagination! Thanks for sharing!

Malcolm,
I echo Steve's comments. I used to be amazed at your technique and quality of construction. Now I am overwhelmed at your imagination.

Great piece. I'm lost as how you would make that on a lathe. Never really got into using one. Just played around a few times.

You sir are a master!
Have you've done a tutorial at all on this?

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

Richard, it is hollow, but not turned inside, with about a 5/16" wall thickness.

Andrew, I actually used the construction of this as part of a DVD lesson. It will be part of my volume three, out in a few months. Currently, I only have the first two volumes available.

Stunning...I love the interplay of dark and light and bringing the two pieces together in such a beautiful knot takes my breath away. You are truly an artist.

That is absolutely awesome, it should be featured in the American Woodturner magazine (journal). I would buy the DVD that shows me how to do that.
