With the purchase of two high angle blades for my low angle smoother I've created my first multi purpose functional plane.
I reground the micro bevel of one at a slight steeper angle to give me about a 60 degree cut and just polished the other. Today, while getting a bookcase ready for glue up I got the thinest shavings ever from a plane. Even with the slightly higher effort required to push the 60 degree blade it was a shear joy to use.
My wife thinks I'm crazy to use that plane. She thinks it's too pretty to use and should be on display on a shelf in my shop somewhere. I initially had trouble getting use to the combined depth and angle adjuster but now the plane has become one of my favorites.
