Hi everyone,

Keeping in mind I'm a newbie here, just wanted to ensure I'm not missing anything here.

I hope to get my laser next week and have started to look around for supplies.

I'm looking for Acrylic sheets and here's what I found:

1/8" x 12" x 24"
Delvie's - $6.40
Laserbits - $12.66
US Plastics - $5.54 (http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/variant.asp?catalog%5Fname=USPlastic&category%5Fname=21314&product%5Fid=10477&variant%5Fid=44292)

As you can see, US Plastics is the cheapest even in others thicknesses as well (3/16" and 1/4"). Is the US Plastics the same stuff at the other two???

Thanks,
Kevin

As long as it's Acrylite as it states on the website, you will be fine.

Some suppliers have recently started to sell acrylic made in Indonesia that has been causing problems. The stuff is called Acrycast.

At that price you might want to call them and see if the product is cast. If not it will not raster well.

I got an order from Delvies yesterday and 1/8x12x24 clear acrylic is $5.44/sheet. This not bulk price either, as my order was small compared to others here.

You might also compare Tap Plastics with these suppliers. Just Google them..

I used to use them but found in the end it cost more so I use Johnson Plastics for some acrylic and Hansen Supply for Romark.

I e-mailed usplastics some time ago about the Acrylite and this was their reply:

Hello

The 1/16" through 3/8" is extruded and the 1/2", 3/4", and 1" are cast.

Please feel free to contact us Mon-Fri 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST, with any further
questions or concerns.

Thank you,

United States Plastic Corp.

So, depending what you want to use it for.

I bought the plastics heat strip bender from US Plastics. They shipped it on time and it was as promised. They send me a printed catalog with a huge number of items in it, lots of them not related to laser work, but it speaks to their credibility.

WOW- I love this site!

Great info from all. Thanks!

Okay, just to recap here...

I'm looking for Acrylite or Acrylic NOT Acrycast...

I want Cast rather than extruded (extruded will not raster well)

Once I add in the discount from Delvie's they are pretty well priced.

Did I get it all??

Thanks again everyone.

As of late I really like http://www.professionalplastics.com/cgi-bin/pp.pl?pgm=co_disp&func=displ&prrfnbr=85258&child=91557&sesent=00

Their cut to size prices are a bit high. But when buying a 24"x48" sheets they are awesome.
