My father in law wants a table saw so he can rip flooring we will install just before Thanksgiving. Most likely it will only be used 2-3 times a year. Any recommendations for a weekend warrior? Budget is less than $300. I have already warned him away from the $100 specials.

the dewalt portable is extremely portable and sports a great rack and pinion fence. you can usually get it off of ebay for much less than retail price.

See if you can find a decent used saw, then can resell it for near what you paid.

If the flooring is a Pergo type laminate, they are known to be really tough on blades. You might want to buy a couple of cheap blades to toss out, or invest in a decent blade with a triple chip grind (TCG) known for durability....the Freud LU82M010 comes to mind for ~ $40.

Good idea from Scott. Check out craigslist.com for your area. Take someone who knows shop equipment with you to check it out if you find something.
