Well I finally got their catalog. Boy were you guys right! The catalog is better than any book I've purchased. After reading it, I wondered if anything on my Jet saw is worth keeping? :confused:

Have any of you stepped up to some of the conversions? I was thinking about the shims to make the wheels coplanar, replace the tension springs and get the tension gage. Have any of you bought or used their tension gage? There are other things I would like to change, namely the guide blocks and thrust bearing but not now.

After considering all the changes that might be made to improve the saw, it looks like I would have as much money in the saw as I paid for it! Anyway, I couldn't put the book down. :D

Tyler do you have a Jet BS? I thought the dust port was for Deltas only. :confused:

Just one I had around the house that John Miliunas recomended. It's all his fault. Works great I "Y " into a 2" of the standard set up to a 4" hose. Sealed up the door cracks with some magnetic sign material I had tried to seal up the TS with and go to town. Doesn't get it all but I don't know of any that does. Except maybe Terry's:D

I recently purchased one for use with my MM16 and it's definitely a "must have" for anyone really wanting to tension accurately. Proper tensioning not only makes the cutting more pleasureable, but it likely will contribute to better blade life, too.

I recently got Louis's catalog (this week actually). I knew he really liked the MM16 and expected to see a bunch of stuff in the catalog for it, but it seemed that most of the items were for the Delta and Jet saws. Do you have to call Louis directly to see what he has for the MM16?

I was also pleased to see Louis's positive comments on the Mini Max saws in the front of the catalog. There are basically only two things he sells that you really need for the MM16...carbide tipped blades and the tension meter. Unlike the other saws that are detailed in the catalog, there really isn't anything that needs augmentation, etc., IMHO, at least. This is also true of most other Euro-designed bandsaws from other manufacturers. They were created to eliminate many of the things that were found to be less than desirable over time with the smaller saws that follow the Rockwell/Delta design. Most of that revolves around blade handling including tensioning. You'll notice that a large percentage of the products that Iturra sells for the 14" saws are meant to either make the blade tension better or be better guided/supported while cutting. Those are not issues with the heavy, welded steel Euro designs. Please note that the larger, heavier "traditional" bandsaws based on cast iron were usually better able to handle properly tensioning a blade as compared to the 14" versions that became popular as more and more folks engaged in woodworking as an avocation or from small business standpoint...no problem with "stiffness" in those mamoth machines!

Dominic recently sent me via private email some scans of a gauge one can make to adjust the tension. Send me a private email (not PM) and I'll pass them along to you...I thought it was pretty cool and it won't cost but $10-20 to make if you don't already have the wood and feeler gauge laying around.

The guy I bought my MM20 from had the Iturra tension gauge and it sure looked like a small PITA to set-up. It is quite sensitive and finicky to set up from what I could tell watching him fiddle with it. I might "roll my own" first and then see about the Iturra design although I must admit that since I don't have the catalog yet...I'm fairly immune thus far.... :D
