I am wanting to put a pre-separator trash can with a cyclone lid from Woodcraft under my Delta 50-760 DC. I hooked it all up with the trash can sitting to the side and it works great, but I want the can to sit under the motor to take up less space. The Y connector that came with the DC is too long for the 30 gallon trash can to fit under the motor. I need a shorter 5" to 4 " reducer. Delta has a 50-479, (link below) but I am not sure it will fit the DC intake. I plan to call tomorrow. Is there anything at Lowes or Home Depot that might work?

Thanks,

Jeff

Most likely not. They don't usually have a clue about Dust Collection or systems.
You might find something in the hardware store in the way of wood stove stovepipe fittings though.
I know that's where I found some answers for some troubling connections for mine.
And don't forget about the larger PVC fittings at the plumbing supply stores.
Lots of ways to skin a cat. ;)

Home Depot in my area sells a metal 5" to 4" reducer. It is in that plumbing/PVC pipe area. The area where they have metal elbows.

I'm using the Delta type (you showed) which I purchased form one of the woodworking sites I use.... Woodcraft .... Rockler. I also purchased some 5" flexible hose From Grizzly to help with my connection.

The reducers for HVAC are much lighter gauge that what should be used for dust collection, but will work in a pinch.

For the real deal at the best price, try Grizzly. Here's a whole page of their various metal reducers.

Here's their 5" to 4" plastic reducer for a whopping $7.

If you have a Rockler in your area, you could probably pick one up there too.

If you have a woodcraft in your area, they have them.
The standard pipe/pvc fittings that you find at the BORGS will not fit.

I have actually found these to be more than adequate in construction due to their shape. But they do need to be taped up with foil tape to eliminate leaks. The one disadvantage to the HVAC reducers is that they are very short...those made for dust collection typically have a longer, more gradual form factor.

Jeff,
I used a rubber sewer pipe fitting from the box store. It works great because it adds some flexibility for removing and adding the sperator barrel. Take a look at this post.
