I'm doing some inlay work for the first time using pre-made inlays. Do I install them with the tape up and then scrape them smooth after the glue dries, or install them tape down? Thanks for the help.

The tape goes on the top, that way when you press the veneer onto the substrate you can scrap it off.On the bottom side it will telegraph through the veneer.Do a search on veneering,Mike Henderson,Dewey Torres give some good info on the process.Be sure and post some pics its the SMC law:D

"Tape up" and remove by scraping. Tape down...bad. You would be gluing the tape down instead of the veneer. You know the "technique" where you glue two pieces of wood together with paper in between, turn them and then split them apart on the paper line? That's what you will have if you glue the tape side down.
