No problem for a well made door.

I agree with Peter...with proper construction and the right number of hinges to support the weight, you shouldn't have a problem with doors of those dimensions or even a little wider.

would 3 blum hinges do?

Three would likely be the right amount for a 42" tall door.

I try not to go over 24" wide and/or 48" tall for 3/4" to 7/8" thick doors. You are well within that. Three hinges should suffice but depending on the actual weight of the door, you might want four.

Plenty. 1/4 panel doors are pretty light. You could probably run two, but the third helps keep the hinged stile straight, and not rubbing against the frame.

Make sure to hinge what ever side has the most bend to it.

edit: I agree with David, I try to keep doors less than 24" wide. I haven't reached a limit on height, I've made a few 72" tall doors before for broom cabinets and the like, you just use a bunch of hinges. I think in that case I used 4, and probably should've used 5. Hmmm....... I built an open bookcase a while back that was 13' tall, should've pushed the customer to put a door on it. It'd be unique!
