Hip Displaysia question

Hi:

Don't know if there are any Veterinarians on this forum, but if there are, can you tell me at what age a dog should have its hips x-rayed? I have a German Shorthaired Pointer that turned 2 years old today and was wondering if the x-rays should be done.

Hind sight is usually 100% so here is mine.

My wife bred German Shepherds for awhile in the 70's. She got her breeding bitch only after seeing the medical records AND X-RAYs of the sire and mother. Hip dysplasia is hereditary and if you find out your dog has it, do not let it breed.
