I have a client that wants me to build 2x4 frames on a weekly basis. I was wondering if somebody knew the cheapest source for the 2-1/2" course screws. I saw that Woodcraft sells the box of 250 for $14.99. I was hoping to find them for less online?

Alternatively, is there another brand of screws that will work with pocket holes? Budget for this project is tight, so I'm trying to stretch every dollar.

Did you look at McFeely's, they have just about any screw you could want.

Pretty sure amazon sells them as well.

They also sell them at the Blue and Orange BORGS which gives you the option for occasional sales and discounts without having to wait on shipping. They are in the section where the kreg jig is sold vs where the other screws are.

www.cshardware --- 2000 of those screws for $40.

I get all my screws from McFeeleys, and I've never been disappointed. And if you didn't see the article on screws in a recent Woodworking Magazine, they tested McFeeleys, Spax, drywall screws, and screws from the Borgs. ALL the screws from the Borgs -- every single one of them -- snapped off when being screwed into maple. Crappy heat-treating. Conversely, NONE of the McFeeleys (which were the cheapest per screw) or the Spax screws failed.

Correct link for Custom Supply Hardware. I used to swear by Mcfeely's but CSH blows them away on screws.

Thank you all for the responses...

I think I will order the pocket hole screws from cshardware.com... since it's the cheapest price.

But I definitely enjoyed browsing McFeely's site. I think I will order screws from them for my personal use.

Dewey - My local Blue Borg use to carry quite a selection of pocket hole screws... but lately that has diminished. I was in a pinch this weekend so I went there and had to buy the outdoor blue 2-1/2" screws. $10 for a pack of 100. Needless to say I will be ordering online from now on.

Drywall screws work in a pinch....hold just as good.

But the head format of a drywall screw (or the more appropriate for woodworking wood screw) will have a tendency to split the workpiece if you accidentally over drive them. Pocket hole screws have a flat bottom that is often supplemented by a "washer head" arrangement.

David, good quality screws are always the best choice and any small cost difference will be long forgotten over time. I buy from McFeeley's and have never had a disappointment with their products.
