Round two, I couldn't get more pics to attach. Thought I new thread may help.
This is an end table I made for the boss. I have several 10/4"x15"x8' cherry planks that I found under hay and guano in our old barn in Ill. and I used one for this project. I shipped them out to Seattle with several hundred brd ft of walnut and maple that had been hiding there for
over 40 years. The plank had lots of twist and being too big for my machines, I was at a loss on how to begin milling. Duh!!! Hand planes. This is the first time I'd done the Neanderthal thing and it was actually fun. I had a huge pile of shavings and I lost 4 pounds in the process. It sure helped me understand the difference between a plane straight from the garage sale and a well tuned one. I was amazed at the grain that began to appear as I got down to clean wood. Must be a branch inclusion, almost looks like a burl. Hope the pics do it justice. The dark portions were the end of the plank that was exposed to the weather and adds an interesting touch and I wasn't interested in hand milling any more stock. I have a lathe duplicator that I rigged up (just like Norm's) and turned the legs after making a prototype that the boss liked. The first one took an hour to do, the last one took ten minutes. Here are some pics ,hopefully, and again comments and suggestions please, JCB.
