This is the second year I have made a Morris recliner for a local auction(third I've made overall) and thought it would be good to share some pics with you. I recall seeing a thread about Morris projects so here is mine.

I have used the same style and I used recycled lumber from crates and pallets sent from Peru. This is Santos Mahogany and I spent lots of time milling and selecting grain but couldn't tell color until I did the finish. I used Daly's Seafin Teak oil--seven coats to 1000 wet and dry paper.
Last years chair sold for $1200 in the silent auction and this year's entry will be in the live auction. Hope it does even better. The auction is sponsored by the local Dental society and proceeds will help fund local "Access To Care" programs. I also have lots of toothpicks left over in case they need them as well. Comments/ suggestions please JCB.( I need help on how to post pics )

Great chair. Very nice. That is a great contribution to a great cause.

Did you use a particular plan? Also, did you do the leather cushions yourself?

Hi Rob,
Thanks! I combined featrures from several plans, mostly copying pics from Mission style texts.

Mark, I saw the sticky after I posted. Loks lie I missed the group project.

Nice job indeed, John. Did you have the cushions done local and if so.. how much if I may ask?

Sarge..

Thanks all,
Rob and John, I got the leather from a local supplier that handles the interior leather for Boeing, primarily their BBJ,s(business jets). They have some pics of the incredible jet interiors with amazing wood cabinetry and finishes. They even supplied the leather for Air Force One!! This is the second chair I have made/donated and they have been very kind in pricing the leather for me. I paid ~~ $150 for a full hide and used half a hide left over from last year. There is a local upholsterer that specializes in recovering dental op chairs. He has also donated his services for the auction as well and I didn't ask him what his UCR would be. Likely ~$250 with foam. He did a beautiful job and the quality of the leather gives the chair a nice "look" and it is very comfortable as well. Last years chair didn't sell as high as I had hoped and I am thinking that in spite of how much people may like the Mission style, it may not blend well with their home decour. Any suggestions for next years auction?? JCB

Hi John, I have been thinking about making a morris chair. Where did you have the cushions made? I live in Kent and work in south Seattle.

Hi John,
Great looking chair, and great chairity too!
(ya, I spelled it wrong on purpose)

You have managed to milk alot of smiles out of your woodworking.
You get the satisfaction of building a beauty, the high bidder gets a classic chair,
and hopefully a bunch of kids get access to dental care.
While visiting the dentist may not make them overly happy, let's hope
improved smiles are their payoff.

Talk about good work, and good works!
Way to make the world a better place, while playing in the sawdust...
Thanks for sharing,
Walt

ps I will be glad to include you when I make the honourary Morris chair builder list in our group thread.

pss The extra headrest kinda reminds me of the dreaded dentist chair! hehe

Thanks Walt,
I appreciate the mention in the Morris Chair Club(for Men??)!! I have all my
fingers so I can learn the secret handshake. I started the chair about a month ago before I discovered your thread. Glad to be included. Thanks, JCB.
