OK I have a question here for any woodworking purists where time, patience and muscle strain is no object.
Has anyone here been able to obtain extremely smooth surface finish on an end grain glued up hardwood plank around 3/4 inch thick with a Low Angle Jack Plane? Such as with a http://www.lie-nielsen.com/catalog.php?sku=62 ?
Were you able to plane both sides down on anything two or three times as wide as the blade, and maintain uniform material thickness?
What about the blade width? Is it difficult to get a smooth finish on a board 6 inches wide, with a blade only 2 inches wide?
If so, what is your secret?
