I got the easy set it awhile back but have never had a chance to try it out. I did order a locked miter bit that I have been wanting to try out.

So

Took the Easy-Set out of the package and read the sheet that comes with it, not a lot to it but it did take me a few readings to really understand what they were saying. Its not that hard its just that I am not that smart I guess.

Got the bit out of the package, now remember this is the first time I have use the bit and the Easy-Set.

Mounted the bit, measured the scrap MDF (3/4) set the Easy-Set to the 3/4 setting. Set the Easy-Set on the router table and adjusted the height of the router to the point that the Easy-Set fit into the bit.

Then made the cuts, the flat one and then the on edge one. The picture below shows the results. I think they were very good for the first locked miter I have ever cut.

With just a very small amount of tweaking I was able to get it spot on. I did use John Lucas way of checking what was needed and that really worked out great, Thanks John. http://www.woodshopdemos.com/cmt-lm5.htm

So for me I think it is worth it, if I can get that close on the first try. I know that a lot of people will find it really not needed because they work with that type of bits all the time, but when you only use them now and then the Easy-Set sure helps.

Nice!

I only tried a lock miter one time, and it was with a lock miter cutter for my shaper. Couldn't get a decent joint no how and gave up after several hours of fussing. Sold the shaper and all cutters not long after that.

May have to try again, this time with my router table!

Thanks,

T.Z.

Great article. that sounds like a worthwhile purchase! does it work with other brand bits too?
