This is a piece of yellow mallee a guy in Canada sent to make something out of, usually he wants plates, that's how he likes to collect and display the different species of wood he has in his collection. With this piece I thought I would give him something different. It measures 12-1/2" at it's widest and 1-3/16" tall with a thickness of 5/16". I finished it with Tung oil and than buffed.

Thanks everybody.
Jeremy, I sand up to 400 grit followed by using a red scotch brite on the lathe, on this piece I only sanded the inner part with the lathe spinning, to scary to sand out by the edge with the lathe running, I want to keep my fingers. Out on the edge I would stop the lathe and hand sand. When the final pass is done using the scotch brite it has a nice shine. Next I apply tung oil I usually go with about 5 coats, rubbing it down with a scotch brite between each coat, than finishing with a buffing, depending on the use I made it for I'll use wax or not.
