I got this piece of burl in a lopsided trade with my friend Mark Cothren (I got the better deal). I've never turned Amboyna before but I assure you I will turn it again. Wonderful wood. This box measures 3-1/4" dia. x 3-1/4" to the top of the ebony knob. Walls 1/8". Finished with antique oil and buffed. I've attached a view with the lid removed. As always comments and critiques welcome. Thanks for looking.

Wow - is that ever rich looking! Very nice variation to your flat-top series! You are right - beautiful wood! Very nice work Keith! Love all the color variations in this!

I love your box. I particularly like the way your lid sweeps up to meet the ebony knob. The simple lines and lack of embellishment allow the beautiful wood to be the star. Very well done.

Keith....as we have come to expect from you...that is a beauty!

Did you have any trouble with the stability of the burl and have to stabilize it with anything? Some of the amboyna burl I've turned, I failed to realize it's instability resulting in a wasted project.

Nice work... I am amazed at how that crack stayed intact so close to the rim. It turned out beautifully!

I'm with Steve on this one--rich looking. Nice lines, wood is the star, shape enhances, doesn't get in the way shouting for attention.

Gets a 10 from me! The sort of thing that others aspire to...

Got to love amboyna, I really like how the lid is recessed into the body. Unique touch.

Very Nice box Keith, I like how you ran the lid up to meet the knob, very nice, and of course the wood is gorgeous, thanks for showing :D

Thanks for the comments.

Ken, I have had this piece setting in the shop for several months and I beleive it was dry. It had no movement at all.

Color, lines, and everything just works. I was wondering how you got that lid like that. I am looking to pick up some burls soon and want a lid. I just don't know how to go about creating the lid without wasting alot of materials. Thanks.

WOWSERS!! That's beautiful. Great form, and I love the way the bark inclusion on the side leads up to the Knob/handle/fineal (not sure what you call it). It is almost like the knob is a part of the same piece of wood. I want to be you! :D
