Here's my first burl turning, and my first lathe project since signing up with the Creek. I haven't found a chuck for my Oliver yet (1 1/8 x 8 thread) , so I've been doing my mounts the oldfashioned way, glued to faceplate blocks with a paper separating line. Clearly I'm going to have to upgrade my tooling and modernize my technique. Since I don't have any way yet to rim mount a bowl, I footed the turning with a router jig and cove bit, perhaps not too sophisticated, but effective.

Hey, that looks nice! Old fashion way... gee I remember that and I'm only 45yr. I'm old enough now to be "old fashion?" :(

A chuck should be real easy. That is a common spindle nose thread. Most chucks have adapters to fit multiple lathes. Most large lathes these days use that exact thread. Woops,, never mind i noticed that it is an 1 and 1/8 not 1 and 1/4. Machine shop would be the best source for an adapter, i'd adapt up to 1 and 1/4.

Also, very nice form and lovely piece of wood!

Turned out really nice Hal! Beautiful wood with lots of character! Glad you were able to finish it!

Love the form, and the finish is not too shabby either. Perhaps you have a machine shop in the area that could make you an adapter. :o:o:o

The Oneway website list an adapter for the Talon, and the Stronghold with a 1-1/8 8tpi.
