I want to build the ultimate crosscut sled from American Woodworker #75 -- October 1999, page 38 -- but I don't have the article. If you have the article can you PM me?

Ray,

I built that sled and it's a good one. I probably still have the article. I'm at work, but I'll go home for lunch and see if I can put my hands on it. If so, I'll scan it and e-mail it to you.

Hey all,
Not sure if you knew but American Woodworker completely reworked this very sled for the May 2007 issue page 72.

They made a lot of improvements over the original. I built it and loved it before I let it go with my old saw:(. It stands on edge under the saw, has a replaceable MDF sub fence, and a adjustable arm. See pic.

Here is the link for back orders of AWW (e-mail request):

I too would love a copy of that article.

I found my copy of AWW and scanned the plans for the crosscut sled. Unfortunately, I do not have a Hi Res color scanner so the photos don't look great on the PDF. I'll send each of you a PDF of the plans, but if you'd prefer a hard copy, PM me with your address and I'll send you a copy by snail mail. The hard copy is much easier to read.

I agree with Dewey, the reworked plans are nice. I'm happy with my sled, so I haven't taken the trouble to build the new one. But if you're starting from scratch, I suggest you give the revised version an good look.

Here's photo of my sled:

I'm having trouble attaching my PDF File to the PM on this board. The PDF is 1.3MB which exceeds the 150 KB max for attaching a PDF. I can't download the PDF to Photobucket so I can't direct link it. If you want the file, PM me with your regular e-mail address and I'll send it to you direct. There is no limit on PDF size with regular e-mail.
Or, in the alternative, PM me with your snail mail address and I'll send you a hard copy. It's more legible then the PDF anyway.
Sorry about the problem.

You could export the pdf into a jpeg, and then upload the jpeg onto photobucket. I'm interested in seeing that article as well.

I've spent the last 45 minutes trying to figure out how to "export a pdf into a jpeg" but I have no clue how to do that. Any suggestions?

I built a sled like the one on the cover of Finewoodworking #199 many years ago. I thinks it's a better design.

I have a Jointech SmartMiter and know many of you that have that or the Incra sled. Is there anything gained by having a homemade sled like this one?

Most Public Libraries would have this magazine. You can copy it there.

One option is to use Photoshop to open the pdf file then save copy.

Assuming you dont have Photoshop: Open the file in Adobe Acrobat. Use the snapshot tool (Tools -> Select&Zoom -> Snapshot tool). Select the whole page. Open MS Paint (under accessories) and paste it. Save as jpg.

Hope you can post it as i'd like the plan as well. Thanks

Or Hank, you could email the file to me and I will convert and post for you - with the appropriate credit, of course.

Price and the skills you develop trying to make jigs or tools improves your woodworking accuracy twice as fast and with less consequence than skill building on a project. my.02

Have you tried www.google.com (http://www.google.com/) and look up "crosscut sleds"? There are numerous sites with detail pictures and plans that can be printed off.
