Another piece of the Maple tree I've been working on lately
Just over 12"D and 2¼" high, kept the wings and bowl just shy of ¼" thick.
It has so far only one coat of Polymerized Tung oil on it, and will get some more and than get buffed.
Thanks for looking ;-))

Leo,

That's a very nice winged bowl. I can't wait to see it after it's got the final finish on it.

Leo,
What speed do you turn something like that at? I know the lower the better, but for the sake of reference: When roughing out, what are your rpm's?

Thanks for the replies guys, appreciate it :D

Chris I did the initial roughing at about 500 rpm and after that 1000, for a moment I was contemplating to go higher, but didn't as I was almost done already, I know seems rather high, but for the wings it is only a 6" bowl, if this was bigger I would probably have gone to 350 to rough and then probably 500 after that, and maybe 1000 to finish cut, but I can't say that for sure, as I go by feel, and 1000 might not feel better than 500, you got to go with what you feel is right, HTH :D

Thanks Leo! That gives me a good reference. I would love to try something like this soon. I hear they can be real knuckle busters too.
