Hi,

I'm looking at the Incra Miter 3000se and the Miter 5000. Is the miter gauge that comes with the 5000 the same as the 3000?

Can the 3000se be converted to the 5000?

Thanks anyone.

Not the same. The 3000se is a stand alone miter gauge - it can be used off of the sliding table. The 5000 has the same fence and locking gauge but bolts to (not clamped to) the sliding table - it doesn't have a miter bar on the gauge.

I actually have the Miter Express and 3000SE and think it's an excellent combo and have had times that I used the gauge w/o the sliding table.

Thanks Mike,

That's what I was wondering - would the 3000SE combined with the Miter Express be the same as the 5000? Or are these two different animals?

It's hard to tell from the video on the Incra site - that comparison chart does not really explain the difference that much.

Yes, to both of your questions. The 5000 is a Incra 1000 miter gauge attached permanently to the same crosscut as the one on the Miter Express. If you have the bar from a 3000SE you could substitute it for the bar on the miter gauge on the 5000. A much better way to go would be a 3000SE and a Miter Express.

Ah OK. Funny seems like they would put the 3000SE on the express as a package. I'm wondering why they would not come out with a standard 3000SE + express package since that's the best of both worlds.

Is there any difference then, between the miter express sled and the 5000 sled - in just comparing the sleds that is?

Anyway, anyone here have the 3000SE and/or the miter express on grizzly table saws? Do they make a good combo?

Because I read somewhere on an amazon review a few months ago, that sometimes grizzly machines their miter slots a bit off, and the incras don't always fit in them without modifications. Anyone experience this?

It's funny that you mention a 3000SE/Express package. That's exactly what I bought from Incra at a show. They do package them together fairly often in their weekly "deals." You can signup on their website to receive the weekly deals from Incra.

The main difference between the Miter Express sled and the 5000 is that the 5000 comes with a miter gauge permanently attached and the Miter Express uses any brand miter gauge (according to Incra) and it's removable from the sled. There could be other differences that aren't obvious to me.

On the problem of the Grizzly slots, I have no experience with them, but the miter bars on the Incra tools are adjustable for slots that may be a little off. Perhaps someone with a Grizzly saw can say if they are adjustable enough for one of those.

Hi Sean,

I have an Incra Miter 5000 and it can be converted to a 3000SE, the parts needed are included in the kit. In other words the miter gauge is removable from the 5000 sled and can be used as a stand-alone miter gauge. The 5000 is similar to, but NOT the same as, a 3000SE + Miter Express. The 5000 is larger and more capable. The sled is larger allowing more cross-cut capacity, the fence is longer and extends to a greater length than the 3000SE. Some have complained about deflection when the fence is extended, I use mine in full extension quite often and have not experienced any deflection.
The miter gauge on the 5000 is much more adjustable than a 1000 with positive stops every 0.5° for repeatable angles.

Here is a comparison chart from Incra's website: http://www.incra.com/product_miter_express_chart.htm

Hope this helps,

George
