I am thinking about building new workbenches for my class room shop out of 80/20 aluminum.
We will be using benchtop power tools and handtools.

One of the reasons for the t track is connectivity to alll of my pneumatics and hydraulics trainers

I am thinking I will need to weight them down a little
any suggestions???

Kurt, the 80/20 material is very versatile, but you are correct that you're going to want to find a good way to add mass, especially if any hand tool work will be involved in the benches' use. Perhaps you could design a composite bench that offers the 80/20 channel with a more traditional structure?

The 80/20 is great stuff if you keep all the joints/connectors tight. Where I work we use it for Cambot/Robot framework and the constant jarring from the Cambots and pneumatic cylinders has a tendency to shake the connectors loose. I would agree with Jim and build the benches of conventional composite material and incorporate the 80/20 extrusions for hook ups.
