View Full Version : Help figuring out approach

My son is testing for his black belt in Tae Kwan Do in a few weeks and I'm building a custom belt holder for his instructor as a thank you for the years of help he's provided to my son. I'm drawing inspiration from a Korean Buddhist temple on my design, but am struggling to figure out how to construct one part of it.

I'm attaching a picture of the roof that I'm trying to use as my model for the top of the belt holder. The roof will be approximately 20 inches wide. The lower edge of the roof will be approximately 3 inches from the wall, and the upper edge will be touching the wall. The vertical distance from the top to bottom of the roof will be about 1.5 inches, making the wood approximately 3 3/8 inches from top edge to bottom edge. I also anticipate making a left and right side.

Now, where I am really struggling is how to create the curved surfaces of the roof that you see in the picture. I'm used to dealing in flat surfaces, but I'm willing to experiment with new techniques.

I'm happy to provide any other details that will help. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
