Afetr listening to my Jet lunchbox thicknesser (planer) struggle with the Australian hardwood I use, I decided to retire it to softwood processing and get myself a real planer. Boy is this thing heavy ! And rather than scream like a banshee, it sort of rumbles like a big V8 motor.
I work with a timber known here as River Red Gum, which is very dense, very heavy and so tough that it has been used for railway ties for many years. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful timber when finished, and this new machine is going to eat a lot of it without getting indigestion.:D

Ken,

I have the same planer and love it. I'm only a hobby woodworker and this planer can handle anything I put through it. If you want to add a thickness gauge to your planer look into the Wixey second generation gauge. And for a hint on how to mount it look at the way that the Steel City planer mounts it to their 15" planer. Enjoy your new toy.

Oh, and not pictures????

Thanks Jim. I won't bother with a gauge as I seldom work to a specific thickness. I just plane everything down to the thinnest board in the batch and then I know they are all the same. (We don't have Steel City products here in Australia)
