I'm rehabbing a few millwright chisels I picked up. I've been looking around, but haven't located a source for the steel rings you see on the handles of these and other types of chisels. Anyone have any sources to share? Thanks.

You'd have to hacksaw fairly carefully and probably do some filing to get them squared and sized, but you should be able to cut sections from plumbing pipe for the purpose.

I think Lee Valley might carry them.

I have bought brass tubing from the auction site, hacksawed, filed and sanded them square. I got the idea from one of Bob Smalser's tutorials - just so credit is given where it is due.

I am a bunch of brass tubing and I can cut some off for about $0.50 each

Let me know what sizes your looking for I think I have 1.300, 1.200, 1" and a bunch smaller like 3/4, 5/8", 1/2" and 3/8" OD

Thanks guys. Sounds like I have some options. LV sells ferrules. Didn't see the hoops tho.

chrome plated plumbing tubing is brass , copper tubing and fittings work too. if using iron or steel tubing and/or pipe, put them in the wifes oven and heat to 350 to 400, bring them out and slip on while they are expanded then cool in water for a tight fit.

I just hacksaw them from plumbing pipe. Should be easy enough to find in the size you need.
