I purchased a used robland/laguna 12" jointer/planer combo a few months back and I'm looking to buy the spiral carbide cutterhead and upgrade fence for it from Laguna. I wanted to check first and see if anyone has firsthand experience with either of these upgrades.
The rep said that it will take a few hours of work, including having a press, to swap out the cutterheads. Is this something that your average "handy" person can do, or am I going to wish I had a mechanical engineering degree and end up with a box of parts? I've never used a press so I'm in the dark here.
The stock fence isn't all I had hoped for and I'm hoping to get bigger/more reliable with the upgrade. Just not sure how easy it is to install and if it's really $450 better than the existing one.
I'm fairly well decided on getting a spiral carbide cutterhead, so I didn't want to spark a debate on that, just on if the specific one offered for this machine has any issues. Any thoughts on either would be great.
