HP has had a relatively inexpensive touch screen computer out for a while:

It looks like there are still only a few in-house aps that take advantage of the feature. I'm thinking that if a few software giants don't soon adopt the technology, it'll die off as another novelty.

Cool machine though....

Mitchell,

I purchased an HP TouchSmart computer system a couple of weeks ago.The touch screen capability is very slick but I haven't had time enough to render any opinion as to whether I like the machine or not yet. I say this because it came with Vista and I can't say that I like the new operating system yet.

Want a laugh? I am answering your post using a Linux box, I just installed Open Suse on an old computer that I had in the shop.

I hope HP has better luck than we did with touchscreen CT and MR scanners. There was a constant maintenance issue as the oils on you hand tend to make the touchscreen "dirty". We had to constantly clean them and then if one wasn't careful while cleaning them.......you got to return the screen for repair or replacement.

Electronic Flight Bag. It's a tablet PC which is supposed to be "ruggedized". It's been a pain to get working, a bit part of which was the touch screen. I did get screen protectors for it which are ridgid plastic sheets but the screen still failed. I got it repaired under warranty and so far so good. Here's the hardware (http://www.dtresearch.com/product/wt360/index.htm).

Casinos use a lot of slot machines with touch screen technology..Some of them must be made to handle the abuse.. Particularly when they take 'my' money:mad:

The HP TouchSmart computers use a high gloss piece of glass on the monitors which is easy to keep clean. It is very sensitive, just getting close with your finger will activate the sensor. It works quite well, even with vBulletin selecting the icons with your finger. You can drag and drop very easily and even increase or decrease the size of icons by using two fiingers to drag the edges.

For some activities it is very fast and efficient, others are best done with the mouse but when you use the touch screen it is very fast as you can touch with fingers of both hands moving about pages real quick. It also gives the wrist and hands an occasional break every now and then during long sessions at the keyboard. The 22" monitor generally provides enough space so the buttons are large enough to touch comfortably, small icons that are close together can be a challenge to select.

Well, I have an iPod Touch with the touch screen technology.......and I LOVE it....have not had any problems with it whatsoever. And as Keith mentioned.....by spreading apart your two fingers it enlarges the window to the size of your screen......and you can do it repeatedly to make it larger and larger each time. It's AWESOME technology!

My concerns are that the technology that obviously works, doesn't work with all programs - yet - and may never be made to work with 80% of the programes that I'd like to use it for.

Anyone use one with Corel Draw?
