This is a late Mother's Day present that I finished up early this week. My mom wanted a plate or something she could put on top of her kitchen cabinets on a plate rack.

It is turned from Spalted Curly Maple. Due to the thickness of the starting blank, I decided to add a little front profile.

Anyways, I think it turned out pretty cool, though much of the splated was removed.

Very nice, Scott. It's nice that a little spalting survived on the rim as it adds interest, almost like an inlay, since it's not "everywhere" like some spalted pieces turn out.

Nice work! Heck, spalting is poisonous anyway isn't it. Wouldn't want the cake to get moldy would you. Just kidding. Maple is my favorite native wood. How did you attach the plater to the lathe? Sticky tape?

Very nice looking piece, Scott! Pretty grain and a very unique profile. :) Me thinks she'll like it!

Nice job Scott, nothing like a platter to showcase attractive grain.
