Well this has been one year in the making, on and off. Finally applied the finish this month and put it to service. The walnut came from Rick DeRogue (thanks), the veneer is olive ash burl. I still need to make something to cover the bed bolts (a carved shell or something along those lines). If you have sharp eyes you can see a few places where I messed up

The burl is a dramatic contrast. Seems to go very well in tone with the walnut. As to the bolt covers, with the straight lines of the bed, I would lean toward something not very ornate - just my thought. Given the hint, I looked for the mess ups, but didn't see any. Great job!

John K. I agree, I think I was just looking for an excuse for a carving project. Considering the general design of the bed a simple cover would probably be better.

Beautiful bed, Zahid! I really like the flare out on the headboard ends. Nice!

The pattern in the burl is quite thought provoking, too... ;)

Zahid....Nicely done! Your burl veneer really is an attention grabber and contrasts nicely with the walnut. Nicely done!

Ahem! I think I am going to frame that and hang it in my garage :D

The flare of the headboard was somewhat copied from a bed I saw on the Internet. Hacked everything else around it. The most challenging thing I did for this bed was to apply the veneer without a vac-press, using cauls and clamps. That was quite stressful to say the least, try getting 12 clamps lined up and in position in a 7 layer sandwitch before the glue starts setting.

Nicely done Zahid. I really like the tone and color contrast between the walnut and the burl. I agree about the covering of the bed bolts. A simple brass hinged cover might be best.

Great looking bed. You put that walnut to good use. Also the veneer looks great.
