I have a walnut tree in my backyard that's too close to the house and needs to be cut down. Obviously, I would like to have the wood from it. Once it's cut down does anyone know of a sawmill in the Winston Salem NC area that would saw it. Would it be better air dried or kiln dried?

contact woodmizer, they will give you names of people close to you who have their portable mills and can do the work.

Most prefer air dried walnut. It is richer and more varied in its color. Some of the air dried walnut I have has a very nice blueish/gray hue along the border of the sapwood/heartwood that is very pretty.

Unless you are in a rush to have wood to work with, I would sticker it and air dry it. Make sure to seal the ends with anchorseal or something else.

Good luck. POST PICTURES!
