I picked up this 6" variable speed grinder, but it doesn't have a guard, or a tool rest and the dust collection hoses are broken. I will probably get the Veritas grinder tool rest, and a Norton 3x blue wheel, but I don't know what to do about the guard. Maybe just get a piece of lexan and fabricate something to hold it, unless somebody knows where to buy a guard.

Just call Grainger Parts, give them model# & they will sell you any parts needed for the grinder.

I’ll probably get tarred & feathered but I don’t use the guards. They always end up pitted and hard to see through, plus most consumer grade grinder guards are flimsy.
I do always wear eye protection.

Like Mike said, Grainger is very good at having replacement parts.

Mike,

Thanks for the idea. I had been searching for Dayton, but not having any success. When I searched for it on Graingers website, I found a parts list:

Are these 'good' grinders? I like the variable speed. I just may have to go looking for one myself!

Do you know how the RPMs can be varied? What is high to low?

I don't know how 'good' they are, it's the first grinder I've ever had. It runs smooth, the variable speed adjustment works nicely. But I'm certain I won't find a better one for what I paid for this one (<$10).

The RPM's vary from 2000 to 3450.
