I am looking at a 1940 Power king Lathe. The seller is asking for 200 clams for this. Is it worth that? It had about about 4" from the spindle to the bed. I am thinking max spinning you could do is about an 8 inch diameter. What do you think?

I don't know anything about the Power King but an 8" swing makes it useful for spindle turning only in my opinion. My 2 cents is "Spend your money elsewhere".

Rob;

I found this on Google about the Power King.

www.lathes.co.uk/craftsmanwood/page5.html - 14k - Cached (http://74.125.45.104/search?q=cache:HIc2HhyiNGcJ:www.lathes.co.uk/craftsmanwood/page5.html+power+king+wood+lathe&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us) - Similar pages (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=related:www.lathes.co.uk/craftsmanwood/page5.html)

Depends upon what you are going to do with the unit as to it's value to you, but in general I agree with Dennis. Spend your money else where.

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a 8" swing which would net you a 7" bowl. Rob for a few dollars more you can get a Jet 1014 (10" swing), Jet 1220 (12" swing) or a Rikon (12" swing). I have the Rikon with a bed extension that has a 12" swing and give you a 40" bed. Just my humble opinion you would be wasting your money.
