Decided to see what craftsman offered, looks like a reeves drive, 400 rpm as the lowest, nova style outboard rest. Hmm at the price tempting as I may be able to get the money for it but i don't have the money for a 1624. Opinions?

Andrew I purchased a Palmgren lathe two years ago, they make them for Sears. I have had two new heads and still have to take apart the reeves drive about every 3 months clean and grease to keep it in working order. I would not buy another. Wait and get the Nova 1624. It's a much better product and you won't be sorry.

Andrew don't even think about it. I think every one that was bought and talked about on this forum are no longer being used or if they are working it is rather poorly. I have one sitting out back with 2 extra headstocks.

Andrew,

I had the very same lathe for 2.5 years. 3 headstocks later I put the lathe up for sale on ebay. These lathes are held in such high regard, that the final winning bid was run up all the way to $68.66.

I am now the very proud owner of the NOVA 1624-44. Fantastic product. On sale at Woodcraft thru the end of October for $849.99!!!!

Good Luck,
Dan

to bad your not closer to kansas I have one I would sell for 400 with a spare motor in the box and lots of extra parts I used it long enough to make wife and kids that bought it for me happy the only good thing is they both the extended warranty and they keep fixing it or now the repairman say what parts do you want me to order for you and you do the repairs since they never work on them the fact of the matter is I have enough parts to rebuild it a couple times if you got the patiences
