View Full Version : How to check out a used Delta Uni?

Found an older Delta Unisaw for a reasonable price.
What should I look for when checking it out? It is an older cast iron base machine. That is very appealing, but I don't want to buy a project when I am looking to buy a tool to use on projects.
Any advice or referral to other other threads would be appreciated.

I found a thread on buying a used uni. It had lots of helpful comments and one suggestion that I need more guidance on. One poster suggested that " things that are not so easily repaired are deep wear marks from repetitive ripping, and wear on the elevation and tilt racks."
I get the deep wear marks, but what and where are the elevation and tilt racks?. If you can include a picture that would be super.
Thanks in advance,
Ron

Hi Ron, the mechanisms are rack and pinion assemblies.
The pinion is a small gear that goes on the elevation/tilt handwheel shaft.
The racks are the large partial gears that tilt or elevate the saw blade.
Check for worn, chipped or missing teeth.............regards, Rod.
