Does anyone have clean vector images of the characters from the original Wizard of Oz? Would they still be copywrited after all these years?

I usually just start with something like this..
http://images.google.ca/images?as_q=wizard+of+oz&um=1&hl=en&newwindow=1&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&imgtype=&imgsz=&as_filetype=&imgc=mono&as_sitesearch=&safe=off&as_st=y

If you choose a larger black and white image, you can probably vectorize it yourself with trace..

Yes, the copyright on them lasts 95 years by law so you will have to wait another 35 or so for them to become public domain.

This depends on the version of CD you are using.. From 12 down trace is a stand alone program.. (maybe x3 too) I'm using X4 and it's built into Coreldraw It pretty easy to play around with.. Just run it, and load your file. there are preset configurations that you can use for outline tracing once traced, you can save your trace in <cX4 in Cx4 it will close when you tell it your done, and save the trace to your CDR page.. Trace, in versions 12 or less, are not as accurate as X4, but seem much faster.. X4 trace is a bit of a memory hog but it makes nice vectors images..

Joe- According to Wikipedia (so consider the source):

"The original book has been in public domain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain) in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_of_America) since 1956. Baum's thirteen sequels entered public domain in the United States from 1960 through 1986"

I can't say about any images from the movie version- I assume you're right on that
