Finished this one not long ago. I feel it is my best so far. What do you think? All comments and constructive criticisms welcome.

Maple with just a touch of spalting. 17" x 2 1/2". Antique oil and then Beal buffed.

This next one is a piece of cherry from my back yard. I had the tree taken down and found that ants and various other assorted bugs had taken up residency. This was a thin slice taken off of one of the bigger pieces. As you can see it was full of critters so I soak it in DNA for a week or so and then turned it to finish and let it warp.

Makes me think of a sunset in the desert.

14 1/2" x 5/8" - Danish oil

No way it holds soup, it would have trouble holding nuts! :D

Toney,
Both pieces are beautiful. The cherry does have sunset thing going, and that maple ,which is always my favorite,is absolutely perfect. You caught the spalting at just the right moment. What size lathe do you have? Again, great work.

Toney,
Both pieces are exceptional. The form of the Maple is simple, and with the spalting it really adds an elegance to the form. The Cherry is very unique and I find it very pleasing to the eye. Great work!

Nice work on both pieces Toney! I like the lines of the maple bowl! Cherry platter reminds me of the planet Jupiter! Again - nice work on both!

Gé Toney, you surely make it hard on yourself, as you set the bar pretty high to do better net time :D: D
All kidding aside, both of these are very nice pieces, the plate is nice and well done, the Cherry is just marvelous, could easily be used as wall hanging, love it :)

The maple has real character, and the cherry has benefited greatly from the invasion forces. Keep up the fine work, and thanks for sharing. :):)

I appreciate all of the comments.

Gregg, I have a Nova 3000 lathe. I still need to put some weight on it but it does a great job for me unless the piece is too much out of balance. I really like the rotating head.

Leo, I received my inspiration for the maple piece from one of the great pieces that you have posted. I don't think mine is as elegant as yours but maybe one day I will get there. :)
