I am in the process of making a jewelery box. The hinge in the plans use a stop hinge on the lid. The only ones I can find are solid brass from Rockler and are like $40.00pr. Is there anything cheaper available or another option?

Have you tried http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.aspx?c=2&cat=3&p=41241
to see if they have the type?

Thanks for the link.
I am not crazy about surface mount hinges but may need to go with that.

For light weight work, I've found that these pin hinges work great.

I've used them on several jewelry boxes. Make a practice set up first to get the hang of how they work and what you need to do.
