Hi--

I'm probably over thinking this, but I would like to add a tool rack for chisels and probably a few hammers/misc small tools to the rear of my bench. It's one of the older Ulmia cabinetmakers' benches with the tool well and is away from the wall. I have some tools hung on the wall now, but it means walking around the bench to retrieve them.

Would you recommend just adding a horizontal board with appropriate size holes in it or something else? Another thought I had was to have two pieces of wood that "sandwich" the back piece of the tool well so I could just slide it or lift it off if I ever wanted to make the racks free standing and also if I needed full access to the top with nothing in the way (wider boards, etc.).

Thanks for any suggestions or photos that folks may have.

Kevin

use a scrap piece of plywood with large casters on the bottom and add a sloping both sides rack to it and put racks on that for your tools. You can move it around to any side of the bench or shop and have your tools at hand.
