I have a ten inch Makita SCMS and was wondering is anyone has built or purchased anything to improve the dust collection. I currently use my shop vac on the outlet port, but it maybe catches half the dust created.

That looks like it would work...maybe a plastic laundry tub would as well.

I use a ridgid shop vac on my Makita and based on advice on another website I upgraded the hose to Model VT2570 from Ridgid (available at HD ) . It made a huge difference. The dust collection is very good now. I did notice that the suction was causing the rubber shroud to close off on the Makita intake so I put some tape to hold it open ( plan to find a better fix later ). I am not sure why the upgraded hose made that much difference, but it certainly did. Also, I saw a posting somewhere where someone removed the rubber shroud and replaced it with a larger rubber shroud with good results. Good luck , it's a great saw.

Our solution to miter saw dust collection involved replacing the 1-1/4 vac adapters with 4" dust collection hoses and a Y to a sweep at the tabletop for the dust/chips that the hose misses (not much).

Bob, I like your idea of adapting something. Mt Sears 10" has a dust pick up with an attached bag that hangs behind the saw. A 1 1/2" vac hose fits this perfectly, but a lot of dust shoots behind the saw where it's kicked out at the bottom of the blade. Something that would pick up from both areas would work. Maybe one of my wife's gardening buckets.... :p
