Hi all,

For those of you who've been wondering "YES" you can engrave onto the back of the new 3G iPhone. I just did 4 new units for a customer - pretty nervous on the first one but it turned out great. I'm using a 45watt Helix at the moment as my laser is in for a service, went with settings of 20% speed and 10 % power, probably could have come down on the power slightly, I also ran the job slowly as the engraving had some really fine lines in it. The engraving came out almost perfectly white even though the iPhone has a plastic back. The engraving included a signature, line of text and a company logo along with a serial number all in a area of 40mm by 40mm. I took pics but haven't taken them off the camera yet, I'll add them as soon as I do. I used the plastic iPhone holder that is in the box as the jig, it works like a dream.

Anyway don't say no if somebody brings you one, it'll engrave.

The Butterfly looks awesome. Seems like white is really good for detail, but bad for big bold pieces as seen with the flower. Black looks good for bolder designs, have yet to see a detailed one.

EDIT: Why does the butterfly look grey, but the rest look yellow (for the white iPhones)??

=)

It's caused by bad in-filling

I've added the pics for those of you who are interested, not the best camera work but you get the idea!

I am quite surprised at your pwr/speed settings...but they look great! I have a Universal 60W and on this type of product, i would use a 40% pwr setting and 100% speed setting...for through-put.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Dave

Like I mentioned in my post I was working on a lone machine as mine was in for a service. Being unfamiliar with the settings I chose to take it real slow. Once I'd done the first one I wanted to make sure the rest came out the same so I just left the settings as they were.

They look great. Thanks for sharing. Wow wish I had you confidence on doing that to a phone that was not mine. By the what if you would share what did you charge for that?
:)
