I did a quick search and didn't find any info so perhaps I can get some advice. I need to replace the large bearing on my Jet 1642. The old bearing is a 6207ZZ (shielded). Is there any reason I can't replace this with a 6207RS (sealed)? The only info that I can find about possible drawbacks is the sealed bearing has a temp limit of 250 F and sealed bearings have more drag. Guess the thing that worries me is if there is no drawback to the sealed bearing, why didn't Jet use that originally to keep out dust (unless it is strictly a cost issue)? Thanks in advance for any advice/comments.

At the time Jet placed bids out for bearings the shielded could have been cheaper. The only other reason I could imagine they would use shielded is to protect the bearings from flying debris if they are exposed.
