When I purchase an Akeda DC24 dovetail jig http://www.akeda.com/bc24/jig.blanket-chest.html, what accessory kit do I need? I'm sure the dust collection thing is a must but I see they have other kits.

I plan on doing basic dovetails and nothing too exotic.

PS: Where is the best pricing??

Thanks,
Jim

To funny I just sent a post wondering why this jig isn't carried by larger more familiar sellers then I saw this thread.
The site only lists 4 distributors.
I plan on buying the C-Kit. If you follow the link at the site to the Charlie B review it explains the geometry of the various bits and why you might want all five.

Dan,

You said, "If you follow the link at the site to the Charlie B review it explains the geometry of the various bits and why you might want all five."

What site and what link are you referring to??

I bought the PC 4212 and figured that would be the answer to me wanting to make a few dovetails. Wrong! As simple as it seemed after reading reviews, I just can't seem to get it right.

Now after reading reviews of the Akeda DC24 it seems like it's idiot proof and that fits into my category.

The PC is just like new but it's for sale.

The reviews link on the Akeda site
http://www.akeda.com/reviews.web.html

Scroll down to Charlie B review.

I'm eventually going to sell the older Liegh D3 jig I have. The only advantage I think it has over the Akeda is infinitely variable spacing. For me this just isn't that important compared to how idiot proof the Akeda seems to be.

Dan,

Thanks for the quick response.

Where do you purchase from? E-mail me if you wish.

Thanks,
Jim

I am not sure what the problems are with the 4212 but I have had very good luck with mine. You can not do different spacing but for the general dovetails and box joints it does a very good job.

I just spoke with Kevan Lear, the designer, at Akeda at some length and he is just what I have read about in reviews. You couldn't ask for a nicer guy to deal with. I gave him many opportunities to talk negative about competitors but he never once said an unkind word about any of them. He just discussed his product.

He said thejigstore.com was a good place to deal with.
