I imagine some of these labels are unique to a particular mfg. or seller but there's lots of experience here - someone may have answers even if that's true.

I have sundry packages of sandpaper I've collected over the years from grit 36 to 1200. It's time I learned something about the numerous different types of papers -

Norton Aluminum Oxide (is this an "inferior" paper that was replaced by "3X" for WW?)
Norton Aluminum Oxide 3X (open "cut" so it sands wood faster without clogging?)
"Glass Paper" (no other designation) - what's this?
Aluminum Oxide Emery - "emery"?
Carborundum Aloxite (I assume the trademarked Aloxite is Aluminum Oxide) "Fastcut" Resin (a 36" wide roll - I cut it down to size - great paper, sands fast) - does "resin" refer the the bonding agent or the backing?
3M WetDry Coated (sold for autobody work) - does this work fine dry on wood?

My confusion is becoming a problem now that I've finished assembling the shop and starting to do actual woodworking (sometimes it seemed like building the shop was real goal). Thanks.
