Let the other folks at SMC know what kind of wood working tools we are using. List your top 3 tools that you use. We may be able to help someone with a particuliar tool if they are having any problems.

The 3 most used tools in my shop are (in order):

#1 - Delta Contractor Saw with 30" Unifence
#2 - Makita Miter Saw (Old Saw with no Compound or Slide)
#3 - Makita 3612 Router (Set in an old homemade router table)

The tool I spend the must time with is a 1"X2"X1/2" scrap that I use as a sanding block. Of course, it has a wrap of sandpaper around it. I guess all that shaping stuff comes next, but the sanding block is my hand more than anything else by far.

The top three in my shop are: PM66 tablesaw w/ 50" fence PM Model 50 6" jointer Router table w/ PC 3½ HP router under it
Next three, but order depends on project:
PC 333 ROSs Handheld routers Jet 14" bandsaw w/ riser block
And ... always in use - the radio. Station varies by mood. :)

Hey Von,

If the intent is to help our fellow woodworkers with any tool related problems - why limit the selection to three?

1) PM66, 3hp w/50" fence
2) MiniMax MM16 bandsaw (this is a GREAT bandsaw, folks!)
3) PowerMatic 54A 6" Jointer (the old "Artisan" series, discontinued with buy-out by Jet)
4) Makita LS-1220 CMS
5) DeWalt "Lunchbox" Planer
6) Oneida 1.5hp Cyclone (older and noisier model)

...and of course the MOST used tool is the 28oz dead blow hammer SWMBO uses to get my attention!

Not counting accessories like dust collectors and air filters, which run on every shop visit. The tools that get used the most are;

1. Table Saw (Upgraded Craftsman 10")
2. 6" jointer (Rockwell Delta)
3. Drill Press (Old Homecraft)
4. Porter Cable ROS
5. Electric drills (any one of three)
6. 12-1/2" planer Delta Lunchbox
7. 14" Delta bandsaw (rising fast on the list)
8. Frued Router
9. Delta Tenon cutter jig
10. Porter Cable belt sander
11. Kreg Jig
12. Bosch Jig saw
13. Skill saw
Scattered in between are a variety of hand tools such as planes, chisels, screw drivers, hammer etc. I also have some other tools that don't get used as often. It all depends on what I'm making.

The top tool I use is my brain (I doubt I will be of much help to others having a problem with their brain)

Next would be my eyes (I should be wearing glasses so I am mostly working in the shadows)

Third would be my hands (I would be glad to look you in the eye and shake your hand while I try to remember my name)

Thanks

Daniel,

I saw the picture of your cabinet for the Jet saw. Can you post one for the miter saw?

Here's the tools I use most during a project.

1) Stanley #12 Try Square - 4 inch size. I use it for laying mortises and rabbets, marking cut lines, testing for square and lots more that I can't think of right now.
2) Measue pro tape measure - 16 foot. I like it because it's marked in 1/8"s and tells me the center of the measurement.
3. Stanley #92 rabbet plane. What a versatile tool, adjusts tenons and rabbets and cleans up glue lines.

Here's the power tools I use most often.

1) Jet Cabinet saw. Accuracy and power.
2. MM16-This is the best tool I own.
3. Bosch EV1617 router in a home built router table.

...you would list your MM16 as the best tool you own? :p

It is quickly becoming my most favorite tool as well!!!

Since I still can't get to my PM66 under the clutter of the Remodel Warehouse formerly known as my shop, my MM16 is the only tool I can actually get to and use.

Pressed to being creative, I'm finding that the bandsaw is much more versatile than I ever expected. :D

That really depends on the stage I am at.

While preparing stock it would have to be:
1. my junky old Taiwanese bandsaw
2. either a Stanley No. 5 or my Powermatic jointer
3. my Makita thickness planer

After dressing lumber, and during the project, it would have to be:
1. combination square/bevel
2. chisels/mallet
3. my spankin' new Lie-Nielsen tenon saw (that a friend of mine gave me for helping him out - just had to throw that in hee hee)

1. Bosch 3850 18V 1/2" cordless drill (chosen as most likely to be worn out in my lifetime)
2. Bosch 12" CMS (took almost 18 months to decide on it and by then the name changed from Skil to Bosch)
3. Milwaukee 7 1/4" tilt lock circular saw (rip-snortin' beast with finesse)
4. Bosch jig saw (oh my!!)
5. Bosch 1617EVS router (like it so much I bought the 1617EVSPK kit later)
6. Kreg 2000 pocket hole jig kit (and all the parts are in a nice carrying case so I can keep it all together)
7. Delta 12" benchtop drill press (great 'cept I wish it had 300rpm speed for big Forstners)
8. Dewalt 3/8" corded drill (use mostly for the pocket hole bit)
9. Bosch 3727DVS 6" ROS (joy to use and does the job)
10. Bosch portable TS (just got it in January but like so far..lots of power for a portable, great fence, easy to tote outside, better blade than I expected)
11. Incra Miter 1000 for above TS (rock solid precision and easy to set-up)
12. Woodslicer blade for my Delta 10" bandsaw (makes me less likely to want to get rid of it and upgrade for awhile)
13. Jet 6" closed base jointer (does the job for me)
14. Dewalt 733 planer (another recent acquisition but so far so good)
15. Bessey K-body clamps (only got 2-40" and 2-24" but many more in the future)

Hi,

Quite the set of Grizzly tools, but not near as much fun as this barren lands grizzly that I had the pleasure of meeting in April 1983. he tore my tent apart with me in it...I was working as a geologist in the Canadian arctic at the time and this fella was not pleased about where I had set up my camp....in the excitement I still had time to grab my camera and make this picture....it must have been the adrenaline in my system because it was a dangerous situation and I wanted the picture..

take care,

I lived in Lubbock for a little over a year. First day there I went to a restaraunt and told the waitress that I wanted a Lone Star to celebrate my first day in Texas. She said "What's that?". She claimed to be born and bred in Tx.
Much later that night at a bar with Lone Star in hand, a dude came up to me and informed me that "real Texans don't drink that piss water".

Oh yeah ... my shop tools:
