Well, this is certainly one for the books.

My youngest daughter volunteered to look after a dog while her friend was on vacation.

The dog turned out to be an 11 month old Doberman, named Parker.

Parker was a nice dog, who unfortunately wasn't well trained, nor as it turned out, housebroken.

We kept Parker, and he was steadilly improving as he was willing to learn rules and what was expected from him. He had a few house breaking accidents, however nothing we couldn't cope with.

That is, until last night, which is 4 weeks after his owner picked him up.

I went downstairs to the workshop to use the bandsaw, and it looked like someone had poured orange juice all over the top of the saw, and it had trickled down the cabinet, splashed on the table etc.

Looking up, I noticed that there were stains on the 6 inch pipe for one of the registers in the living room.

Well, you guessed it, Parker had urinated in the floor register, it ran down the pipe to a joint, which was right over my bandsaw!

Last night I took the doors off, the table, pulled both wheels off (boy I had forgotten how heavy cast iron wheels that size are), and of course all the blade guides/elevating mechanisms etc.

The table has one corrosion spot that I cleaned up, however the bearing for the guides all need replacing.

The doors and welded frame cleaned up perfectly, the paint protected them.

Oh yes, and I had to take down the ducting and clean it.

What a memorable dog Parker has turned out to be.

regards, Rod.

Hi Rod,
From time to time I hear people say that 'no good deed shall go unpunished'.
I try not to be as cynical as all that... but I must admit sometimes it seems to ring true.
Sorry for your troubles, but it does make an unusual bandsaw story.
You teased us with 'welded frame', but did not mention the manufacturer.
Who's saw do you have?
take it easy,
Walt

ps Sorry to veer off your topic...
Can you tell me the name of the Toronto woodshows?
I believe there is a show around March, and another around October?
I want to research the show dates, to do some advance planning.
thanks

Betterto be pi$$ed off than pi$$ed on.I guess you lose 'cause you got both.
It's amazing how those pooches can find stuff to wreck. I had one chew the toe on a BRAND NEW pair of Luchese boots.

Hi Walt, Dianns bandsaw isn't anything special, it's a General International 90-240M1 that she uses to cut up blanks her lathe.

(Well OK, sometimes I use it, when she's not looking).

The only wood show that I know about in Toronto is the Canadian Home Workshop Show Feb 27 through March 1 at the International centre.

There is also a woodcarving show at Black Creek Pioneer village October 25/26.

regards, Rod.
