Spalted white birch bowl with a slightly flared opening. Please notice a band of curl in the 1st and 4th photos that actually seems to radiate light!

Bowl is 7 ¾” diameter x 3” high with 3 coats of Minwax Wipe-On Gloss Poly.

Steve, that's a pretty bowl. You're right about the 1st and fourth photos. That is amazing! It's hard to do a bowl with this type of reversed curve in it. You did it well! :D

Beautiful bowl, Steve. That light emitting curl is what I've always understood to be 'chatoyance'. That's a big word for a guy like me but it has a nice sound that goes with that incredible ability of wood to bend light and shoot it back out at you. Seems like most the woods that are in that birch, aspen, poplar family do it best. Again, beautiful bowl!

Another nice bowl, Steve.

As a side note, I'm glad you guys turned me on to the Wipe on Poly.

Absolutely beautiful bowl, although it doesn't exactly encourage me to show my lumbering (pun sort of intended) efforts at the lathe.
Regards, Hilel.
