View Full Version : Almost Hollow Form

This was my first attempt at a Hollow Form. As you can see it had a decent shape. All things were going well until it blew... http://pic14.picturetrail.com/VOL561/3684635/7593283/277313335.jpg

But as you can see I was able to salvage the HF into a bowl. This is Spalted Maple and is about 7" round and about 2.75 inches high. My first Poly wipe on finish.

Quite the save Jon - beautiful wood and finish! So - what happened to cause the form to blow up?

I have, umm...several...pieces on my shelf or "out there" that, umm...were created with the same, umm...pruning technique. :) Stuff happens and as you can see in this one, the end result is still spectacular! Nice work, Jon.

It does take time to get a feel for wall thickness. Be sure you are constently measuring it, both mechanically and with...your fingers. The latter can be pretty precise instruments, believe it or not!

fantastic color in that wood - really jums out and grabs you. Nice job!
